Prairie Avenue Resurfacing, Haven/Kingsley School Campus Improvements, Back to School August 26

Haven

In connection with sewer rehabilitation on Prairie Avenue between Lincoln and Grant and renovations to Haven School's entrance, the City plans to resurface Prairie Avenue and create parkway cutouts area for the Haven School drop-off and pick-up. However, due to several water main leaks in that stretch of Prairie Avenue, the pavement resurfacing has been deferred until next year, after the water main is repaired. Thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, the playground between Haven and Kingsley Schools now has a new, paved 1/6-mile track, thanks to the Haven School PTA and the larger school community. Haven School's construction work continued this summer and includes a relocated main entrance on Prairie Avenue with improved security, expansion of the cafeteria at the Lincoln Street side of the school, and the addition of four new classrooms on the southeast side of the school. Construction continues on the parking lot behind the school, with enhanced lighting.  Construction should be substantially completed before the start of classes on Monday, August 26.

The improvements to Haven School will accommodate over 770 students enrolled for this school year and enrollment projections that reach 900 students in the next few years.

The Haven/Kingsley School campus is now home to over 1100 students, arriving and dismissing at the same time. Please help us ease congestion in the neighborhood during arrival (8:15 - 8:30 a.m.) and dismissal (3:20 - 3:40 p.m.) times:

·  Remember that Prairie Avenue is designated one-way northbound between Grant and Lincoln before and after school;

·  Encourage your school children to walk or ride a bike to school;

·  Use a meeting/drop-off spot a block from school if you must drive your student to school; and

·  Work with the 9 crossing guards assigned to Haven/Kingsley to ensure pedestrian safety.
