Evanston Police Gear Up for Labor Day Weekend, Increase Traffic Enforcement

During August 16 through Labor Day, September 2, the Evanston Police Department will be out in force as part of the annual Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk drivers. The statewide crackdown will include high-visibility alcohol and seatbelt enforcement throughout Evanston. More>>>


Save the Date! Evanston's Annual CommUNITY Picnic August 25

What's more fun than gathering with your friends, family and fellow Evanstonians to enjoy an afternoon in the park with free food, games, activities and entertainment? Celebrate Evanston, diversity and going back to school! Evanston residents gather for a free community picnic with free food, games, giveaways and entertainment. 

The 2013 CommUNITY Picnic will take place from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25 in Ingraham Park, located west of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Avenue. Admission is free. Bring the whole family for hours of entertainment, fun activities, free food and giveaways!


"Jalisco Week" Comes to Evanston August 29

The City of Evanston and the Federation of Hometown Associations from the State of Jalisco, Mexico (known as "Fedejal"), will celebrate the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month with a free event in Evanston. As one of the Illinois stops for “Jalisco Week,” the Evanston event will feature the Mariachi group Mexico Vive; folkloric and contemporary dance troupes; artisans straight from Jalisco; and much more. This event is free and open to the public.

The "Jalisco en Evanston" event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 at the Levy Center, located at 300 Dodge Ave. in Evanston. This is the second year that the City of Evanston will host this event. The Evanston event is part of a week-long tour of the area. Each year, during the months of August and September, Fedejal celebrates “Semana Jalisco” (Jalisco Week), where they tour several cities in Illinois to celebrate their culture and traditions as a prelude to Hispanic Heritage Month. More>>>.
