The City of Evanston and the Federation of Hometown Associations from the State of Jalisco, Mexico (known as "Fedejal"), will celebrate the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month with a free event in Evanston. As one of the Illinois stops for “Jalisco Week,” the Evanston event will feature the Mariachi group Mexico Vive; folkloric and contemporary dance troupes; artisans straight from Jalisco; and much more. This event is free and open to the public.
The "Jalisco en Evanston" event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 at the Levy Center, located at 300 Dodge Ave. in Evanston. This is the second year that the City of Evanston will host this event. The Evanston event is part of a week-long tour of the area. Each year, during the months of August and September, Fedejal celebrates “Semana Jalisco” (Jalisco Week), where they tour several cities in Illinois to celebrate their culture and traditions as a prelude to Hispanic Heritage Month.
