Evanston Police Target Drunk Driving and Seatbelt Violations for 4th of July Holiday

Evanston Police today announced its plans for July 4th traffic enforcement, focusing on both drunk and unbuckled drivers. The intensified enforcement effort will focus on late-night hours, as statistics show that a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve a drunk driver and/or unbuckled motorist. The crackdown is part of the statewide, Independence Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket effort. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Evanston Police Department. Police Officer and Firefighter/Paramedic Recruitment

The City of Evanston is currently working with Public Safety Recruitment to hire entry level Police Officers and Firefighters/Paramedics.

If you are interested in applying to be a Police Officer, please read the Police Candidate Packet and Police Job Description. In addition, view the POWER test booklet for additional information regarding the Police Officer POWER test. The Police Officer application deadline is noon on July 1, 2013.

If you are interested in applying to be a Firefighter/Paramedic, view the Fire Candidate Packet and Fire Job Description. The Firefighter/Paramedic application deadline is noon on July 22, 2013.

The City of Evanston will be hosting an information session to give an overview of the recruitment process and Fire and Life Safety Services Department on Saturday, July 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue. All applicants and interested individuals are encouraged to attend.

The Evanston Sidewalk Sale+Artwalk

Calling all bargain hunters! The Evanston Sidewalk Sale + Artwalk is Friday, July 26 - Sunday, July 28, 2013! Downtown Evanston will once again partner with the Chicago/Dempster Merchant Association for this year's Sidewalk Sale + Artwalk! Close to 200 Evanston merchants in both downtown Evanston and the Chicago/Dempster districts will offer deals on summer inventory, featuring the ideal mix of independent shops and your favorite national chain stores. In downtown Evanston peruse the works of local artists during the Artwalk portion of the Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, July 27th. To get to the sale on public transit, take the CTA Purple Line “L” to the Davis, Dempster, or Main stop; or take Metra to the Davis or Main stop. Click for info on "Getting Here." Local Artists can be a part of the Artwalk in downtown Evanston!

Are you a local artist interested in displaying and selling your works of art in downtown Evanston? Contact the Downtown Evanston organization, we are once again inviting local artists to set up alongside retailers on Saturday, July 27th. Grandmother Park to Join 4th Parade

The Grandmother Park supporters will make their second appearance in the 4th of July parade along Central Street. You can join, too! Hardhats and shovels are the requisite attire (liberally interpreted). Drop a note to Gay Riseborough at gay@grandmotherpark.org to tell us you'll be marching - youngsters in strollers (and wagons and bikes) are welcome too.

For its 14th year, It's Thursday, Let's Dance! will be heating up downtown Evanston on six Thursday nights throughout the summer! Come on out to the only outdoor dance floor north of Chicago, conveniently located at 909 Davis St. Plaza, at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Church Street (at the Davis St. Metra stop). The third annual recycling fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 13 at ETHS. This free event provides residents an opportunity to recycle a variety of items, securely shred documents,  learn about construction projects, and get a close look at some of the Streets and Sanitation heavy equipment.  More Info
