Rebeca Mendoza is on The Check Out podcast! Rebeca Mendoza came to Evanston at age 5 from Mexico City. Despite growing up here, she says she doesn't feel like an Evanstonian. In this episode, we talk about the issue of "invisibility," unique features of Evanston's Latinx community, and a vision for an Evanston that is truly inclusive. Listen now.
Rebeca is Regional Grants Officer for Rotary International and serves on the District 65 School Board; she is the first Latina to hold this position. She is a founding member of Evanston Latinos, an organization created in the midst of the pandemic to respond to emergent needs. She has also been involved on boards or as a staff member in many integral Evanston institutions including Y.O.U., the McGaw YMCA, Family Focus and the Evanston Arts Council.

Evanston Aid is a volunteer-run mutual aid organization co-created to connect people with resources during COVID-19. Looking for Census Phone Bank Volunteers! The Evanston Census response rate is lagging behind our 2010 results. The 2020 Census virtual phone bank is looking for volunteers to make phone calls to our lowest response rate areas. Volunteering can be done from home, anytime between 9 am and 9 pm weekdays from mid to late July. Open to anyone with access to a phone and computer.
