Mission Impossible Reads James Baldwin

A Year of Reading James Baldwin. Mission Impossible begins its 10th year with a supportive, yearlong, community discussion of three novels by James Baldwin: Go Tell It on the Mountain, Giovanni’s Room, and Another Country. A kickoff lecture will be held on Tuesday, September 24 at 7 pm, by Dr. E. Patrick Johnson, Carlos Montezuma Professor of African American Studies and Performance Studies, founder and director of the Black Arts Initiative at Northwestern University. Book discussion groups will form in late September. Read more.

Experience an interactive workshop on toxic masculinity led by Dr. Ada Cheng, tenured professor-turned-storyteller. Explore what toxic masculinity is, how it affects us, and how change can take place. Dr. Ada Cheng is the Education and Outreach Specialist with Campus Advocacy Network at Women's Leadership and Resource Center, UIC. LEGO Battlebot Challenge

NEW. Safe Spaces group for LGBTQAI+ youth and allies. This youth led group fosters connection through developing personal stories and awareness, gaining new experiences, and connecting through art, games, food and FUN. Grades 6 -12. Drop in. Thursday, September 19, 7 - 8 pm, the Loft, Main Library 

LEGO BattleBot Challenge. Work with a team to design and build a robot using LEGO Mindstorms kits. Then face off against other teams to push the robots out of a ring. Free Community BBQ Kicks Off Mobile Resource Center

Free BBQ

Free BBQ. All are invited to a free barbeque to celebrate the kickoff of the Community Mobile Resource Center (CMRC). This pilot program will bring information and resources on money matters, law, and health directly to people and neighborhoods that are seeking them, as well as offer on-site childcare.
