Reaching Children Beyond the Library Walls

Laura plays pizza

Outreach from Evanston Public Library to young children beyond the walls of our library locations is a daily (and sometimes nightly) endeavor that involves at least 16 community partnerships.

Why not take a delicious trip around the world through your very own kitchen?

Read-Ability Book Group Welcomes Adults with Disabilities

read ability

The Evanston Public Library hosts the Read-Ability book group, a group for adults with cognitive disabilities. Meetings take place on Mondays from 5 to 6 pm at the Main Library. Each session is devoted to one book. Read more

According to group member Claudia Joehl, “I initially got involved through Center for Independent Futures (CIF).  I look forward to seeing what happens in the books we read and talking about it in the book club. I like being part of a group of people who like to share what they think about things."

A new session begins in January. For more information or to join this group, contact Jeny Wasilewski Mills at jwasilewski@cityofevanston.org

Building Essential Early Connections to the Library

Post Office Play Dates

Kindergartners from six District 65 schools will hand write and deliver envelopes to stuffed animals throughout the library this Saturday at Post Office Play Dates, a program developed by library staff to welcome all D65 kindergartners to the library. Other elements in this wonderful web of programs, funded by Foundation 65, include a free book bag and easy reader for every kindergartner and a tour of the EPL Children's Room for every kindergarten class.

Your Contribution Makes a Difference

The book guy

The Evanston Public Library relies heavily on every contribution from staff, donors, and volunteers. We all play a role in making this library all that it can be. We partner with more than 120 Evanston organizations to broaden the reach of our limited budget. Volunteers like Michael help the Library go farther and serve more. When you make a contribution to the Fund for Excellence, you join volunteers like Michael in a commitment to provide needed programs, resources, and experiences that serve people within and beyond the Library's walls. Together we are Evanston Public Library. Please make your contribution today.
