New Program: Learn to Line Dance

Line Dance Seniors

Wednesdays, September 5 through October 24
1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Fee: $48 for Levy members; $63 for nonmembers  

"Learn to Line Dance" classes are now being offered at the Levy Senior Center. This series of classes is perfect for a novice and non-dancer. Line dance is no longer just country – we'll dance to jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll and classical music. This is a great low impact exercise for the body and mind. Class includes eight weeks of step by step detailed instruction. No partner is needed.

Flu Shots and Other Inoculations Offered September 7

Walk-ins of all ages are welcome on Friday, September 7 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., when Jewel-Osco Pharmacy will offer flu, pneumonia and tetanus vaccines at the Levy Senior Center. Please remember to bring your Medicare card or any other insurance cards so we can process your vaccine properly. To schedule an appointment, please call 847-448-8250.

If you don't have insurance, the costs are: flu vaccine, $20; high-dose flu vaccine, $65 (age 65+); pneumonia (PCV13), $180; and pneumonia (PPSV23), $75.        


Heirs of Joy to Perform September 21

Join us at the Levy Senior Center on Friday, September 21, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for an evening of uplifting, hand clapping, soul-stirring gospel music from The Heirs of Joy. This dynamic group was started 32 years ago under the leadership of Vernon Clark and currently includes a number of talented Evanston residents. Together they have performed alongside gospel greats, including Albertina Walker, Marvin and Vickie Winans, and Kim Stratton, as well as to audiences throughout the United States and internationally. The Heirs of Joy are sure to inspire with their energy and musical talent.

This concert is free and open to all.


Introducing: The Levy Diners Club

We're proud to introduce our newest social club at the Levy Senior Center: the Levy Diners Club.  Each quarter we will visit a different local restaurant, dine and get to know our fellow Levy Center members. Participants will drive themselves and meet at the local restaurant at the designated start time.

Farmhouse Evanston is a comfy farm-to-table spot with local brews featured amid exposed brick and salvaged décor. Enjoy a served and plated lunch and your choice of tea, coffee or lemonade. To start with, we will enjoy a fresh green salad, your choice of the fish fry, brisket sandwich or the original farmhouse burger. For dessert, you'll enjoy the Farmhouse famous cheesecake. Cash bar available. Registration is required and space is limited. Please stop by the Levy Center to register. Fee: $37 for Levy members; $52 for nonmembers.

Friday, October 5: Secretary of State Super Senior Day
Super Senior Day is a convenient and voluntary program for driver’s license renewal, which includes a vision screening exam. This event is open to all ages. A Secretary of State Mobile Driver Services Unit will be available for participants to renew their driver’s licenses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An identification card can be obtained for $20. However, if you are age 65 years or older you may obtain a free, non-expiring State of Illinois photo ID card. Drivers age 75 years and older are required to take a driving test to renew their driver’s licenses. Therefore, they must visit a Secretary of State Driver Services facility.

Monday, October 15: I-CASH Illinois
Walk-ins are allowed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but registration is encouraged.

The Illinois State Treasurer is holding 2.9 billion dollars in unclaimed funds for Illinoisans ranging from lost paychecks to uncashed life insurance policies. The State holds these lost funds until they are claimed by either the original owner or their heirs. 

Representatives from the Treasurer's office will conduct a search for you at no cost. If money is owed to you and you provide proper identification, state staff members will assist you in filing the proper paperwork to receive your money.  Please call 847-448-8250 to make an appointment.
