This outdoor learning program for families, in partnership with Take A Kid Outdoors, offers activities such as ice fishing, snow painting, winter hiking, birding, games and survival skill-building. Admission is free. Dress warmly!

Interested in the fine craft of knot tying? Spend the afternoon tying knots to make a macramé-inspired hanger for a planter. Bring your own flower pot or one will be provided.

Spring Break Camp

Iowa City Parks and Recreation is offering Spring Break Camp March 14-18 from 7:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. 

Stay tuned! Additional details about the camp will be available the week of Feb. 15.

Registration begins March 2.

 

Robert A. Lee Recreation Center Improvements

The Iowa City Recreation division made many improvements last month to the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center including replacing the boiler, replacing the heat coils in the pool area, resurfacing the locker room floors, and a new coat of paint for the main lobby and bathrooms. Additionally, the billiards tables in the game room have been re-felted. Thank you for your patience during our closures in January.

Garden Plot Program

The 2016 Iowa City Community Garden Plot program begins at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, April 4. 

Locations

Wetherby Park, located at 2400 Taylor Drive

Chadek Green Park, located at 1920 Friendship Street

Registration

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, April 4 at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, located at 220 South Gilbert Street. Plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and interested gardeners are encouraged to arrive early on the first day of registration. The Recreation Center building will open at 6 a.m. Numbers will be available on the lower level of the building near the customer service desk. Staff will call those numbers in order beginning at 7:30 a.m. These numbers are to hold your place in line only; they do not represent your garden plot number assignment. Registrants will be required to sign a lease agreement to maintain a plot through Oct. 1.
