Many of us are
busy making our New Year’s resolutions — and I
have a suggestion for you — resolve to use the Library more in 2016. Here
are a few ideas:
Access free digital magazines through
the Library’s Zinio subscription. Visit one of our drop-in Tech Help sessions
to learn how.
Read to a child. We’ll launch our 1,000
Books Before Kindergarten program during Book Babies on Feb. 5. Sign up a child you know and
bring them to the Library often.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Did you know the greatest ability to learn language skills is before age 6?
Sharing books and stories is important to a child's brain development, which is why the Library is pleased to partner with Pearson for our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages parents and caregivers to do just that: read 1,000 books before the child starts kindergarten.
Studies have shown that reading aloud to children as early as
infancy strengthens language skills and builds their vocabulary — two important tools for beginning readers.
Come to Book Babies at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, to learn more about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and register your child. Participants also can register at the Children's Desk during regular Library hours after Feb. 5.
