June 14 is Free “Get Outdoors Georgia Day”

Stand-up paddle boarding, archery and tree climbing are just some of the free activities offered during “Get Outdoors Georgia Day” on June 14.  Hosted by Sweetwater Creek State Park just west of Atlanta, the celebration encourages Georgians of all ages to sample a variety of outdoor recreation.  Visitors can also watch live animal programs and browse environmental booths.  The event runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is part of the seventh annual “National Get Outdoors Day” created by Get Outdoors USA.

Father’s Day

Gather all of the dads and grandfathers in your family to celebrate Father’s Day in the great outdoors.  Picnic shelters and group shelters can be reserved in advance for a summer barbecue, plus we have accommodations if you want to stay the weekend. Georgia’s State Parks can help make this a memorable Father’s Day for your family.

Cabin Renovations

Mountain lovers, you’ll want to check out the newly renovated cottages at Vogel and Fort Mountain state parks.  These cozy cabins have fully furnished kitchens inside, plus grills and picnic tables outside.  Both parks feature cool mountain lakes with swimming beaches, plus gorgeous hiking trails. This one is at Vogel State Park near Blairsville.

New Gift Cards

Just in time for Father’s Day, Georgia’s State Parks now have gift cards for purchase. These can be used for campsites, cabins, retail shops, historic site admission, boat rentals, golf and numerous other activities.  Cards may be purchased at Georgia State Park offices or by calling 1-800-434-0982.

Celebrate the first day of summer with races for all age groups, ending with a family race.  Canoes provided.  Prizes will be given to winners of each age group.  Register by 9:30 a.m.  $2 plus $5 parking. 706-356-4362.

Friday Night Frog Walks

Fridays in June

Listen to an amphibian concert and learn who is splashing about at night. These ranger-led hikes are geared towards ages 4 and older and are not stroller accessible. Bring a flashlight and sense of adventure.  $5 parking. 706-663-4858.
