New Gift Cards Now Available

Just in time for summer weddings, college graduation and Mother’s Day, Georgia’s State Parks now have gift cards for purchase.  These can be used for campsites, cabins, yurts, retail shops, picnic shelters, historic site admission, boat rentals, golf and numerous other outdoor activities.  Cards come in any denomination starting at $5 and can be re-loaded for continued use.  They may be purchased at Georgia State Park offices or by calling 1-800-434-0982.

New Video Library

Beautiful and thought-provoking videos from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources can now be viewed online.   A wide range of topics is available, such as sea turtles, Tallulah Gorge, the gold rush, artificial reefs and Providence Canyon.

Memorial Day

Honor those who fought for our country by visiting one of Georgia’s historic sites this holiday.  On May 24, learn about Sherman’s “March to the Sea” and watch cannon firings at Fort McAllister.  On May 31, join Civil War re-enactors for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Pickett’s Mill.

Bluegrass Concert Series

Red Top Mountain State Park

Enjoy a free bluegrass concert every week at the Vaughan Log Cabin behind the park office. Bring a picnic and a chair or blanket, then let music carry your worries away.  Come early in the day to enjoy the park's trails and Discovery Center.  $5 parking. 770-975-0055.

Okefenokee Swamp Tours

Daily, 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Stephen C. Foster State Park

Take a guided boat tour of one of America’s natural wonders.  Look for alligators, herons, egrets, owls and other wildlife while cruising in the Okefenokee Swamp.  On Saturday mornings, the tour includes a guided hike on historic Billy's Island, once home to Native Americans, pioneers and lumbermen. $15-$20 plus $5 parking. 912-637-5274.

Saturday, May 24 - Monday, May 26, 1 – 3 p.m.

Wormsloe Historic Site

Commemorate Georgia's role in the 1739-1748 war between Britain and Spain. A brief presentation will be followed by a tour to the tabby ruins and colonial life area for military drills, musket and cannon firings, and a re-enactment.  $10 adults; $9 seniors/military. 912-353-3023.
