Outdoor Wildlife Leadership School Workshop for Educators

Next month we have a great opportunity for educators to learn more about Georgia’s wildlife and natural resources.  The Outdoor Wildlife Leadership School (OWLS) is will be held at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center July 15-19.  We still have space available.  To make a great workshop even better, there is no cost to the workshop!  Due to several grants from The Environmental Resource Network (T. E. R. N.) and the Georgia Natural Resources Foundation, all room, board and program fees are covered.  In fact, once educators use the material with their students, they will receive a $100 stipend for attending the workshop and using the material.

OWLS is a workshop focused on wildlife conservation for K-12 and nonformal educators.  If you are interested in learning about environmental education through hands-on activities, have ever thought about adding more experiential learning to your classroom or are looking for a fun way to earn Professional Learning Units; OWLS is for you.

Participants will spend five days immersed in Georgia wildlife education via activities and day trips including birding in Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, canoeing in Bond Swamp, and exploring bogs at Ohoopee Dunes. Also, spend time learning basic conservation biology concepts and field techniques that can be used with students in and out of the classroom. Finally, if you aren’t already Project WILD and Aquatic WILD certified, participants will be trained as Project WILD Facilitators and given curriculum guides.

The cost of the program is absolutely free and covers all room and board and program fees.  The workshop will be July 15 - 19, 2013. All participants will receive three Professional Learning Units to assist in maintaining their teaching certificate.
