Track Altamaha Flow

On May 18, 2015, Dr. Daniel Gleason with Georgia Southern University Research and Service Foundation released 50 gallons of a non-toxic tracer dye into the mouth of the Altamaha River to investigate the connectivity of the river outflow to critical offshore marine habitats. In addition to releasing the dye, 2 satellite-enabled drifters were deployed, which will provide information on how debris may disperse after being exported from the Altamaha River estuary. Findings from this project, which encompasses linkages between coastal/inland and offshore systems, will inform adaptive management of critical hard-bottom reef habitat. This project was funded by the GA Department of Natural Resources Coastal Incentive Grant program and was provided boat services by Greys Reef National Marine Sanctuary.
