Public input needed for Orange, Lochloosa, Newnans lakes natural resource management

Residents, business owners and everyone who has concerns or interest in Orange Creek Basin, which includes Orange Lake, Lochloosa Lake, Newnans Lake, and Paynes Prairie, are welcome and encouraged to attend the Sept. 25 meeting starting at 5 p.m. at Grand Lake RV and Golf Resort, off Highway 318 just east of Interstate 75 next to Ocala Jai Alai in Citra.

This meeting will provide a forum for concerned stakeholders to voice their concerns and play an active role in water quality and natural resource management.

The Orange Creek Basin Interagency Working Group, an informal discussion group composed of government agencies with regulatory/management authority, has scheduled this meeting to discuss natural resource management and water quality issues in the Orange Creek Basin. Orange Lake, Newnans Lake, Lochloosa Lake and Paynes Prairie are important fish and wildlife resources. Protecting and restoring water quality and aquatic habitat are important parts of managing these resources.

The meeting will begin with an open house forum at 5 p.m., with time for the public to become acquainted with agency staff, followed by a presentation on agency roles in the basin at 6 p.m. The meeting agenda is below. Refreshments will be provided and the meeting location is handicapped accessible.

Those needing any additional information may contact Ryan Hamm at 352-415-6961 or Mary Paulic at 850-245-8560.
