JACKSONVILLEThe Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Northeast District awarded BCR Environmental Corporation today with its 2015 Environmental Excellence Award at the 23rd Annual City of Jacksonville’s Mayor’s Environmental Luncheon.

BCR Environmental is an environmental solutions company with corporate headquarters in Jacksonville. The company is transforming the way municipalities treat and manage bio-solids and organic wastes. BCR has several industry-revolutionizing technologies that convert organic waste streams into safe, valuable and marketable end products, including beneficial agricultural products.

“DEP’s Northeast District is excited about this special opportunity to recognize the BCR Environmental team for their beneficial reuse of resources and their support of an important non-profit organization in Jacksonville,” said Northeast District Director Greg Strong. “By promoting environmentally responsible practices and helping other organizations to find collaborative solutions, BCR is making a positive difference in our community.”

Through facilitation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northeast District, on Oct. 13, 2014, BCR partnered with the Clara White Mission, a local non-profit organization, to provide the Mission’s White Harvest Farms site with beneficial renewable material, or compost. This all-natural compost provides slow release nutrients to the soil, thus reducing the need for commercial fertilizers. The compost also reduces water consumption by approximately 16,000 gallons per acre each year, and minimizes the leaching of excess nutrients into the groundwater due to its water retention properties. BCR’s donation of compost has enabled the Clara White Mission to grow the much-needed vegetables that are helping to feed local neighborhoods and teach valuable agricultural skills.

The Mayor’s annual Environmental Awards Luncheon, held at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, provided local environmental organizations the opportunity to present awards to individuals and groups that have made a positive impact on the local environment.
