TAMPA
–
Florida Department of Environmental Protection employee Ryan Martin received
the Engineer of the Year award from the Tampa Chapter of the Florida
Engineering Society (FES). Twelve local engineering societies presented
their annual awards at the Tampa Bay Engineers Week
Banquet at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa.
Martin
works as a permitting engineer at the Southwest District Office in the Tampa
Bay area. He specializes in the review of stormwater permitting, which
regulates activities involving the alteration of surface water flows. These regulated activites include new development that generates stormwater runoff from upland
construction.
“We
are very proud to have Ryan as a member of our staff,” said Southwest District
Director Mary Yeargan. “He uses his skills to preserve natural resources for
generations to come, and he volunteers to educate engineers of the future.”
Since
2009, Martin has volunteered as the co-chair for the Tampa Chapter's annual MATHCOUNTS event, a
local middle school math competition. The event requires countless hours of planning,
fundraising, organizing and coordinating for 15 to 20 participating schools and 50
volunteers.
Martin
is a professional engineer, with a bachelor’s degree from the University of
Wisconsin - Platteville in environmental engineering and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of South Florida.
