~Learn about the snakes of the Florida Panhandle at this free lecture~
APALACHICOLA
– The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve
(ANERR) will host a lecture on snakes found in the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday,
Feb. 18. The lecture will be held at the ANERR Nature Center in
Eastpoint. This is the second lecture in a series of monthly
natural history lectures, known as “Reserve Wednesday.”
Gibby Conrad, an environmental specialist with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, will talk about some of the native snakes to the Florida Panhandle
and why it is important to learn how to coexist with them in a program called
“Living with Snakes – The only good snake is a LIVE snake.” Conrad will also
handle a live snake and offer participants an opportunity to interact with it.
Participants at this lecture will learn how to
identify venomous snake species, how to interact with a snake in the wild, interesting
facts about snakes and possible reasons behind ophidiophobia, the fear of snakes.
The lecture is free and registration is not required. For more information please
contact Gibby Conrad at 850-670-7702 or Gibby.Conrad@dep.state.fl.us.
