DEP SECRETARY APPOINTS CRAIG VARN AS SPECIAL COUNSEL ON WATER POLICY AND LEGAL AFFAIRS

TALLAHASSEE — Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Jon Steverson has appointed Craig Varn as Special Counsel on Water Policy and Legal Affairs. In this role, Varn will serve as the department’s General Counsel and will also oversee the Office of Water Policy.

Craig’s experience in environmental and water policy will serve the department well as we continue to work closely with the water management districts on the state’s most pressing water matters,” said DEP Secretary Jon Steverson. “I’m confident his expertise will benefit the agency as we work to protect Florida’s water resources.”

Varn has more than 15 years experience working with the private and public sectors, including legislative and executive branches of government, agencies, Cabinet and gubernatorial commissions on growth management, environmental and local government issues.

Varn most recently served as an attorney with MansonBolves. He has previously served as the chief policy advisor to former Senate President Jeff Atwater on all environmental, growth management, agriculture and utility issues. Prior to becoming an attorney, Varn worked as an engineer designing stormwater management facilities, drainage systems and support structures and assisted clients in environmental permitting for stormwater management facilities.

Varn has a law degree and master’s degree in business administration from Florida State University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida.
