SAN
MARCOS DE APALACHE HISTORIC STATE PARK TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING
~The public is
invited to share input on the land management plans ~
TALLAHASSEE – Join the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection’s Florida Park Service for a public workshop and presentation of the
update to the management plans for San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park on
Tuesday, Nov. 18.
San
Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park interprets the history of this national landmark back to 1528 when Panfilo de Narvaez arrived with 300 men. The park
sits at the confluence of the Wakulla and St. Marks rivers, south of
Tallahassee.
Proposed
updates for this park include the following.

Conducting
a historic structure study of the museum/visitor center building to evaluate
it for preservation and improvements, including improvements or repair
of the museum roof and restroom.
- Conducting
a preservation study of the historic fort walls.
- Improving interpretation of the historic fort walls and along the park’s
existing trails.
- Stabilizing
the revetment wall along the park’s shoreline on the Wakulla River.
- Removing
the existing shop and replacing it with new shop/equipment storage buildings in
a different location.
There will also be an advisory group meeting on Wednesday,
Nov. 19.
