DEP PROVIDES $75,000 TO CITY OF MIDWAY
FOR WASTEWATER PROJECT

~Funding will help pay for septic tank study in Gadsden County~

TALLAHASSEE  A $75,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the city of Midway to survey septic tanks located in three of its neighborhoods.

The project will help the city assess the location and severity of septic tank failures in the Rustling Pines, Orion Point and Hilltop subdivisions. The results of the survey will allow the city to establish a cost estimate for converting approximately 100 homes to a wastewater-collection system.

“DEP is excited to see the city of Midway begin examining the possibility of connecting so many of its residents to regulated wastewater-treatment systems,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “This is a positive first step toward eliminating a negative impact on Florida’s environment.”

“I appreciate Governor Scott and Secretary Vinyard for their support on this project,” Sen. Bill Montford said. “This study will provide us with important information as we move forward in transitioning these homes from septic tanks to a more reliable wastewater-treatment system that is better for Florida’s environment.”

The project is expected to be completed in 2015. Midway is located in Gadsden County.
