DEP FUNDS EXTENSION OF NEARLY 2 MILES OF WATER MAIN IN JACKSONVILLE

TALLAHASSEE – In an effort to encourage commercial development and to improve water service along U.S.1, the city of Jacksonville is constructing water main extensions from Borden Street to Trout River Boulevard. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is providing $100,000 to aid the city in this endeavor. The city of Jacksonville is investing $2.15 million.

“I am pleased DEP can help fund the extension of nearly two miles of water mains,” said DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. “This project will improve current water service to the area people and businesses along the corridor.”

Residents and businesses along the project corridor currently rely on wells for water. This project will involve the construction of 1.6 miles of water-main extensions in three segments in order to connect the segments of water mains already in the location.

This project is anticipated to be completed in June 2016.
