DEP PROVIDES $500,000 TO PASCO COUNTY
FOR WATER PROJECT

~Funding will help expaond public water system serving Lacoochee Community~

TALLAHASSEE  A $500,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows Pasco County to expand its water services for the Lacoochee Community.

The project will upgrade three water-supply wells in the community as well as extend a central water system to areas that are currently being served by individual wells. The project will also improve public safety by installing properly sized water mains in the area for fire protection.

“DEP supports Pasco County’s efforts to ensure residents have access to quality water for years to come,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “It is important for local governments and the state to work together on projects like this to not only provide quality water for residents by also protect Florida’s natural resources.”

“This water project will provide for expansion and improvements to the public water system serving the Lacoochee Community, an area of tremendous need in Pasco County,” Florida Speaker of the House Will Weatherford said. “Additional water supply is essential to protecting the public health, safety and environment in this community. This is another important step in the overall revitalization of Lacoochee.”

"I am appreciative of Governor Scott and DEP for helping secure the funding for this much-needed project in Pasco County," Sen. Wilton Simpson said. "This is a project that not only ensures residents have access to quality water but does so in a way that protects Florida's environment."

Lacoochee is located in the northeast corner of Pasco County. The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
