DEP PROVIDES $300,000 TO TOWN OF MEDLEY
FOR DRAINAGE PROJECTS

~Funding will help address stormwater runoff in Miami-Dade County~

TALLAHASSEE A $300,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the town of Medley to begin work on a project that will address drainage issues in Miami-Dade County.

The funding will pay for upgrades to an outdated drainage system by installing storm sewer mains, exfiltration trenches and drainage structure. It will also help pay for much-needed flood protection to businesses.

"Properly managing stormwater runoff is one of the best methods of reducing excess nutrients into Florida's waterbodies," DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. "DEP is happy to provide the financial assistance so the town of Medley can manage its stormwater runoff."

The areas targeted for the upgrades include Northwest 89th Avenue from Northwest 95th Street to the town limits, Northwest 93rd Street from west of Northwest 89th Avenue to the connection at the FEC Railroad RW Corridor, and Northwest 95th Street from Northwest 89th Avenue east until it dead-ends.

The improvements will allow the town of Medley to meet national and state operations and maintenance standards for drainage and storm-sewer systems. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
