DEP NORTHEAST
DISTRICT TO HOST FREE HAZARDOUS WASTE AND USED OIL TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR SMALL
BUSINESSES
~Workshop
will focus on hazardous waste, universal waste and used-oil management~
JACKSONVILLE – The
Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Northeast District will hold
two free workshops regarding the handling of commercial hazardous waste and the
storage of used oil on Nov. 5 in Jacksonville.
Topics
discussed will include hazardous-waste identification, universal-waste
regulations and used-oil and used-oil-filter management standards. This
training is an example of the department’s continued efforts to work directly
with the community and to successfully drive higher rates of environmental compliance
throughout the state.
Hazardous
waste is a discarded substance that, because of its concentration, physical or
chemical characteristics, may pose a hazard to human health or the environment
when improperly treated, stored, disposed or transported. Common regulated
wastes at small businesses may include solvents, paints, corrosives, spent
batteries, used oil and used-oil filters.
Both
workshops will be held on Nov. 5. Space is limited, so the department
recommends registering early. To register for either workshop, please contact
Jean Richards at 904-255-7137 or email jeanr@coj.net. This training is
being held by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in partnership
with the Northeast Florida Regional Council and the city of Jacksonville.
