DEP PROVIDES $500,000 TO SUNNY ISLES BEACH
FOR DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS

~Funding helps city properly manage stormwater runoff~

TALLAHASSEE – A $500,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the city of Sunny Isles Beach to move forward on a project aimed at addressing drainage issues in the city’s most populated area.

The project will help eliminate flooding issues along 174th Street by installing inlets. PVC pipe will also be installed to collect excess drainage flows and carry them to an existing storm-drainage-outfall pipe that already exists along 174th Street.

“Properly managing stormwater runoff remains a top priority for DEP across the state,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “DEP is excited to provide financial assistance to the city of Sunny Isles Beach to ensure stormwater runoff does not negatively impact the environment.”

The stormwater improvements will be installed in conjunction with a repaving project along the road. The city is using $1.5 million in local funds from its 2014 and 2015 Capital Improvements Budget to help pay for the projects.

Sunny Isles Beach is located in Miami-Dade County.
