DEP PROVIDES MORE THAN $100,000 TO MARGATE FOR SEWER PROJECT

~Funding will help pay for rehabilitation of sewer pipe in Broward County~

TALLAHASSEE – A grant of $104,553 allows the city of Margate to move forward on a project to rehabilitate approximately 3,200 linear feet of sanitary sewer piping.

The project calls for the installation of cured-in-place pipe to repair possible underground leaks in the sewer line. This procedure allows for the rehabilitation of the pipe without the need for replacement.

“These are the types of smaller projects that can make a significant impact on the quality of water in the Everglades watershed,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “It is important for local governments around the state to work with DEP as we continue to protect and preserve Florida’s water.”

The city of Margate is using this funding in addition to $500,000 of local funds for the project, which will ultimately reduce the impact of excess nutrients into the C-14 drainage basin in the South Florida Water Management District’s Everglades Watershed.

Margate is located in the northern part of Broward County.
