DEP PROVIDES $700,000 TO WAUCHULA
FOR WATER-QUALITY PROJECTS
~Funding will help install or replace potable-water lines for city residents~
TALLAHASSEE – A $700,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the city of Wauchula to install or replace nearly 10,000 feet of potable-water lines.
The projects will provide adequate water delivery, increase water pressure and improve water quality for the residents and businesses in the city located in Hardee County.
“DEP supports the city of Wauchula’s efforts to ensure residents have access to quality water for years to come,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “It’s important for the state to work with local communities as they address their water needs, especially if they do it in a manner that protects and preserves Florida’s water resources.”
"It is a great pleasure to support infrastructure improvements in my hometown," Representative Ben Albritton said. "This much-needed investment into our local community and economy will strengthen Wauchula for the coming years. I'm thankful that Governor Scott supports Wauchula as evidenced by his support of this project."
The new or replaced water lines will be installed in two areas withn the city. The first area falls within the approximate boundaries of South 1st Avenue to the west, Green Street to the north, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue to the east and East Summit Street to the south. The second area falls within the approximate boundaries of North Florida Avenue to the west, Louisiana Street to the north, North 7th Avenue to the east and West Main Street to the south.
Construction on the projects will begin after completion of the engineering design and permitting process. Final construction for the two project areas is expected to be complete in 2015 and 2016.
Wauchula is located in Hardee County.
