DEP PROVIDES CITY OF DORAL $750,000 FOR STORMWATER PROJECTS

~Funding will help ease drainage issues in Miami-Dade County~

TALLAHASSEE – A $750,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the city of Doral to begin work on projects that will address flooding concerns from stormwater runoff.

The projects, scheduled to be completed in 2016, will provide relief for five flood-prone areas in Doral through the installation of exfiltration trenches, new manholes and inlets. The areas where these projects will take place were identified in the city’s 2013 Stormwater Master Plan Update.

“Properly addressing stormwater runoff remains a key component for protecting the quality of water in Florida,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “DEP is excited to provide the city of Doral with this financial assistance to ensure stormwater runoff does not negatively impact the environment.”

“The city of Doral is an up-and-coming city with a rising population,” Senator Rene Garcia said. “The $750,000 for stormwater improvements provided by the state of Florida will be a good source of development for Doral.”

The drainage upgrades will take place in five areas in Doral, including the Vanderbilt Park community and a commercial area along Northwest 55th Street. Upgrades will also take place along a stretch of Northwest 33rd Street and a section of Northwest 21st Street as well as the intersection of Northwest 21st Street and Northwest 102nd Place.

Doral is located in the north-central area of Miami-Dade County.
