DEP PROVIDES $500,000 TO CITY OF WEST PARK FOR WATER PROJECTS

~Funding will help pay for new drainage systems in Broward County~

TALLAHASSEE – A $500,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection allows the city of West Park to begin work on a project that will improve stormwater drainage along one of the city’s main roads.

The project will address surface water runoff and remove water that collects along the right-of-way on SW 40th Avenue. Included in the project are a series of improvements such as catch basins, drainage pipes, drainage outlets, trenches, curbs, gutters, a drainage structure and landscaped drainage retention areas.

“DEP supports cities like West Park as they update the infrastructure needed to properly manage stormwater runoff,” DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. said. “Making sure excess nutrients contained in this stormwater do not impact surrounding waterbodies is a wise investment in Florida’s environment.”

“The project will provide much-needed drainage improvement along the SW 40th Avenue corridor,” West Park City Manager Ajibola Balogun said.

West Park is located in the southeastern corner of Broward County.
