CITRA –  The Orange Creek Basin Interagency Working Group is hosting a meeting on Sept. 25. Representatives from a variety of agencies will be in attendance, including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Department of Transportation, Alachua County, Marion County, and the city of Gainesville. Residents, business owners and individuals interested in water quality in the Orange Creek Basin are encouraged to attend the meeting to discuss their concerns for resource management and restoration.

WHAT:       Orange Creek Basin Interagency Working Group Public Meeting

WHEN:      Thursday, Sept. 25

WHERE:    Grand Lake RV and Gold Resort

                  18545 NW 45th Avenue

                  Citra, Florida 32113

“Coordination with relevant agencies and interested members of the public is crucial to the development of an effective restoration plan,” said Tom Frick, director of the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration. “This meeting will help to identify the issues and roles handled by the various stakeholders and agencies.”

The Orange Creek Basin includes Orange Lake, Lochloosa Lake, Newnans Lake and Paynes Prairie. These waters suffer from excess nutrients. To address this, DEP recently adopted an update to its initial water quality restoration plan, called a basin management action plan or BMAP, and stakeholders are actively engaged in implementing projects to improve water quality.
