CELEBRATE RIP CURRENT AWARENESS WEEK WITH DEP AND PENSACOLA BAY BREWERY

~Department highlights rip current dangers and safety this week~

PENSACOLA – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recognizes June 1 through 7 as Rip Current Awareness Week. Rip current safety is important throughout the year, but Rip Current Awareness Week provides an opportunity to bring special attention to beach safety.

This year, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Florida Coastal Office is partnering with Pensacola Bay Brewery to raise awareness of beach safety during Rip Current Awareness Week. The idea to partner with Pensacola Bay Brewery to highlight safe beach recreation practices was inspired by the microbrewer’s Riptide Amber. Bottles of the ale are emblazoned with flags reminiscent of the warning and safety flags used at public beaches across the state.

Join the DEP's Florida Coastal Office and the Pensacola Bay Brewery to enjoy food, drinks and music while we raise awareness of how to avoid and escape rip currents. The Santa Rosa Island Authority lifeguard and beach patrol from Pensacola Beach will also be at the event to teach the public about beach safety.
