DEP TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP ON FUTURE OF SILVER SPRINGS STATE PARK

OCALA– The Florida
Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service will host a
public workshop on Wednesday, April 9 to provide several updates pertaining to Silver Springs State Park.
The meeting will address the Silver Springs Basin Management Action Plan, the ongoing
repair and renovation activities and the proposed amendments to the land
management plan for Silver Springs State Park. The Advisory Group will meet on
Thursday, April 10 at 1 p.m. Public comment will be accepted.
Proposed changes at the park include:
- The
Division has proposed to add a swimming area at the headspring of the park.

The
Division has also proposed to develop a Group Camp with primitive cabins,
bathhouses and a centralized recreation/dining hall for youth and adults.

Paradise
Park is a former African American community located near the spring. The
Division will provide interpretative kiosks at the park to recognize the
significance of this historic site.
- The
Department is working with our concessionaire to open Wild Waters for the summer 2014 season. The details are not yet confirmed.

Redevelop
Ross Allen Island to create an interpretive area for visitors to experience the
native wildlife and plant species found within Florida’s floodplain swamp
communities.
