ALFRED B. MACLAY GARDENS STATE PARK TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING
~The public is invited to share input on the land
management plan ~
TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Department of
Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service is hosting a public meeting and
presentation of the update to the management plan for Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State
Park in Tallahassee. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug.19 at the Chiles High School Cafeteria,
7200 Lawton Chiles Lane, Tallahassee.
The presentation will propose updates to the management plan, which
will include
- A new trailhead near the
park entrance
- A paved shared-use trail
from the park entrance to the Lake Overstreet Trailhead
- A new fishing dock on Lake
Hall
- A new visitor center and
wedding garden area near the entrance to the gardens
- Expanded interpretation uses
for the historic structures in the Maclay House complex
- Relocation of the Lake Overstreet Trailhead closer to the site of the old Gillam House
- Conversion of a former
employee residence to an interpretative area to tell the story of the
tenant farmers who worked this land.
