PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD WITH A
FIRST DAY HIKE
~Many Florida State Parks are hosting hiking
events on New Year's Day~
Participants enjoy a First Day Hike at St. George Island State Park in 2015.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida
Park Service invites residents and visitors to participate in First Day Hikes on Friday, January 1.
This New Year’s Day, many Florida State Parks are offering
guided hikes. First Day Hikes provide the opportunity for family and friends to start the New Year in a healthful way. This year, there are more than 70
participating state parks throughout Florida.
“Join me and my family as we hit the trail since there's no better way to start the New Year than at a Florida State Park,” Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione said. “First
day hikes are a great opportunity to celebrate the New Year outdoors with
family and friends.”
The events in Florida are part of America’s State Parks
First Day Hikes, which is a national initiative aimed at getting people outside
and starting the New Year on a healthy track. The hikes will be guided by park staff and
volunteers who will provide educational commentary along the way. Come dressed
appropriately with sturdy shoes or boots. For those who do not enjoy hiking,
most Florida State Parks will be open regular hours for visitors.
