BUFFER PRESERVE CELEBRATES 20-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

The St. Joseph
Bay State Buffer Preserve’s 20th anniversary celebration will feature guest
speakers and educational programs emphasizing the importance of the preserve
and its relationship to St. Joseph Bay. The celebration will also include two
tram tours, each two hours long, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. On the tours,
preserve managers will share the area’s history and the preserve’s efforts to
protect this ecologic treasure. Trams are limited to 26 guests per tour so
early registration is encouraged.
Educational
presentations will begin in the visitor center at the top of every hour from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. At 11 a.m. Dr. Jack Rink will discuss what the preserve was like when
it was established in his presentation “The Geological History of St. Joseph
Bay Buffer Preserve Lands: Beach Landforms and Archaeological Occupation.”
The Friends of
the Preserves is sponsoring lunch from Paul Gant’s Bar-B-Que at noon for $10 per
plate. Guests planning to attend the lunch must register by Nov. 6. The Friends
of the Preserves is a citizen support organization which supports the goals of
The St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve.
