DEP INVESTS $5.4
MILLION IN LOCAL
RECREATIONAL PROJECTS
~Communities receive grants for sports
facilities, playgrounds and picnic areas~
 Check presentation to Bradford County Commission of $100,000 for improvements to Speedville and Lincoln parks.
TALLAHASSEE,
Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced that
it will invest more than $5.4 million in 110 recreational development projects
in local communities around the state through its Florida Recreation
Development Assistance Program (FRDAP). This competitive grant program provides
state funds to develop lands for public outdoor recreational use,
such as building or renovating sports facilities or playgrounds.
“The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is committed to funding projects that directly benefit natural resources and local communities,” said DEP Secretary Jon Steverson. “This grant funding will support projects such as athletic fields, picnic facilities, fishing piers and playgrounds – projects that provide taxpayers additional recreational opportunities.”
Through the end of November, the department is presenting ceremonial checks to municipalities and counties across the state. For

Since 2013, FRDAP has invested more than $8.6 million in 174 projects to improve local recreational facilities across the state. Eligible applicants include municipal and county governments and other authorized entities with the legal responsibility to provide public outdoor recreation.
