Theatre, Mayor Muriel Bowser will deliver her first State of the District
address. This event will serve as an opportunity for Mayor Bowser to
address residents of the District and to officially
conclude the Mayor’s Pathways to the Middle Class Tour.
This tour was a week-long effort that highlighted ways the current Administration
is creating pathways to the middle class for D.C. residents.
Parking
will be provided at the Frank D. Reeves Municipal Center on a first-come,
first-served basis. In addition, attendees
are encouraged to use public transportation. The nearest metro station for this event is the U Street/African-American
Civil War Memorial Metro Station.
No
bags or outside food will be allowed inside the venue. No signage, posters or
fliers will be allowed in the venue.

The D.C. Office on Aging will hold a stakeholder budget
briefing on April 8th from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM in the Old Council Chambers,
which is located on the ground level at One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street,
NW). This event will serve as an opportunity for Dr. John Thompson to present
DCOA’S FY 2016 budget to the DC Commission on Aging, Long-Term Care Coalition,
Senior Advisory Coalition, Senior Service Network, and other community

Pepco
has filed a billing error notification (BEN) with the Public Service Commission
of the District of Columbia on March 20th. The error impacts approximately 650
Pepco customers. Pepco discovered the error
on March 19th. Due to the error, Pepco has
temporarily stopped mailing bills, or
has issued
partial bills, as a quality control measure to ensure accuracy. The Commission is
looking further into the matter and will provide additional information as it
becomes available.

DCOA will be hosting
an open enrollment session for its new Saturday Respite Program this Saturday,
April 4, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at Congress Heights Senior Wellness
Center, 3500 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE.
Eligibility:

Age
60 years or older.
- Low to moderate income.
-
Diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia and/or memory loss.
- D.C. resident (Priority given to those in Wards 7 &
8).
- Needs minimal assistance with prompting
and/or cueing.

bring a government issued ID. Attendees will
be provided more information on this exciting program and enrollment materials!

Project is a program to produce Digital Historical Stories told by Seniors
through the eyes of Youth.

Please join the White House Summit on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on May 12, 2015 at The George Washington University in Washington, DC!
Held during Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, this Summit will be an unprecedented and historic all-day convening of senior federal officials and community leaders. The day will include conversations with federal officials and AAPI leaders, performances by distinguished AAPI artists, and interactive sessions on diverse issues including economic growth, education, health care, civil rights, and immigration. The Summit will celebrate President Obama’s leadership, showcase Administration policies and programs that have supported the AAPI community over the past six years, and outline priorities for the next two years and decades to come.
As a participant, you will have the opportunity to Connect, Share, and Mobilize:
- Connect. Interact with federal and community leaders from across the country working on various issues to advance the AAPI community.

Share. Discuss your own experiences, stories, and priorities with leaders and other participants.

Mobilize. Gain tools to mobilize your communities to expand opportunity for AAPIs everywhere.

California’s
Southland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association recently published
several factsheets to assist caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s Disease and
related disorders. Please click here to see these tips sheets that
address bathing, maintaining a safe home environment, medications, anger and frustration,
wandering, and hallucinations. These materials were provided via the National
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center.
