Postal Plaza is looking for volunteers! Lending a hand
not only fosters community well-being, but is sure to be a rewarding
experience. Postal Plaza is seeking a variety of seniors to assist with their
new customer service station.
An
experienced customer service representative is needed and must be computer
literate and feel comfortable with giving directions to others so they may
access and perform transactions via an online services kiosk. The
assignment is long term, non-paid, and it can be for as little as 3-4 hours a
day. Hours are flexible, and bus fare and expenses will be provided.
For further information on available volunteer
opportunities, contact Alfredo Navarro, Jr at 1-866-752-0972 or
e-mail at Alfredo.Navarro.Jr@ssa.gov..

Serve DC is
encouraging residents to volunteer on behalf of the DC Citizen Snow Team. The
DC Citizen Snow Team is comprised of volunteers who are able to assist seniors
and residents with disabilities with shoveling and snow removal in the event of
winter weather.
*Currently,
there is a critical need for volunteers in Wards 4, 7 and 8.
The
District requires property owners (residential and commercial) to clear the
sidewalks surrounding their property within 24 hours after a snowfall. Even a
dusting of snow can pose a challenge for seniors or individuals with
disabilities, which is why we are asking residents to volunteer their services
to help keep everyone safe and make the winter a little easier on those in
need.
Register online to become a DC Citizen Snow Team
volunteer. For questions or further information, please contact Juan Thompson or call (202)
727-0709.

Christmas came a few days early for some the
seniors from the Washington Seniors Wellness Center (WSWC). Fifty-six seniors
from WSWC had the chance to visit the White House on December
16th. Many seniors remarked that
they had not visited the White House in many years and were grateful to
have a chance to see the White House’s many Christmas
trees and holiday displays.
Have you heard about the #HealthyAging2015 Summit? The 2015 Healthy Aging Summit will identify diverse innovative community-based programs that build engagement, cohesiveness, and resilience, to encourage health before entry into the health care system. Next year's summit will explore specific ways that public health and health care intersect to promote healthy aging. Exhibitors will be able to showcase how clinicians (including physicians, pharmacists, dentists, nurses and more) are working together with public health professionals to improve health and health care delivery.
