Mayor Vincent C. Gray greeted nearly 4000 seniors at the Mayor's Annual Senior Holiday Celebration held at the D.C. Armory for District residents.
The event featured live entertainment, musical guests, wellness demonstrations, free facials, manicures and massages, information exhibits featuring community and government resources, along with a festive lunch. Seniors enjoyed a well catered holiday meal and left this event happy, and full of joy.

The
D.C. Office on Aging (DCOA) Ambassador Program is a FREE, interactive,
member-based program designed to reach out to older adults and their caregivers
to help them learn about the services and resources available to them through
DCOA. If you are interested in expanding your network and educating older
adults about the services and resources available to them, join us for our next
Ambassador Training Workshop to learn about all of the programs and services
that DCOA offers to the community and how you can become an ambassador. All
workshops include an overview of Office on Aging programs and services,
information on how to access resources, and guidance on your role as an
advocate.

April Garner- HR Advisor General Services
April Garner attended Hampton University in Hampton,
Virginia and returned to the Washington Area in 2005 where she began her career
with the District government. She’s worked in several divisions within the DC
Department of Human Resources since April 2007. DCOA, April’s last position was
with DCHR’s Staffing and Recruitment Administration as a Human Resource
Specialist. She is a proud mother of a
beautiful daughter and expresses sheer excitement to become a part of DCOA’s
General Services – HR team.

Mark Bjorge - Community
Outreach Specialist External Affairs and Communications
Mark
Bjorge is a native of Northern Virginia and first moved to Washington, D.C. in
1990 while a student at The George Washington University. It was during this
time that he discovered his love of the city. After graduating, he was drawn to
community affairs and ever since has actively strove to improve the quality of
life for all residents. Mark has served as an ANC commissioner in DuPont
Circle, as a Community Relations and Services Coordinator for Ward 2, and as a
Customer Services Program Specialist in the DC Department of Transportation.
Mark currently lives in Ward 4 with his wife and two children, and in his free
time enjoys walking, biking, cooking and gardening.

Brian Footer- Director of Policy, Planning and Evaluation Policy, Planning and Evaluation
We are proud to announce our new Director of Policy, Planning
and Evaluation. Meet and welcome Brian Footer, MPA, former Policy Advisor,
in his new role responsible for DCOA's newly created Policy, Planning, and
Evaluation unit. Brian grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. where
he first became interested in public service. He has worked on the federal,
state and local levels of government throughout his career. His incredible
energy and enthusiasm is worthy of mention. Most recently, Brian worked on policy and legislation
effecting seniors and veterans including the Age-Friendly City initiative at
the New York City Council. Brian returned to the District in 2014 eager
to continue working with the aging community and has already become an
invaluable member to the DCOA executive team.
