Presently, the agency can provide current and former military personnel with options counseling, lifespan respite, nutrition services, and free transportation. The Mayor's Annual Senior Holiday Celebration will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the D.C. Armory, located at 2001 East Capitol Street, SE for District residents age 60 and older.
The celebration, with more than 3,500 residents expected to attend, is the largest occasion to celebrate our city’s older adult population. Hosted by the D.C. Office on Aging, the event will feature live entertainment, musical guests, wellness demonstrations, free facials, manicures and massages, and informational exhibits featuring community and government resources, along with a festive lunch.

DCOA is currently seeking seniors interested in volunteering to build relationships with, mentor, and guide the District's youngest learners in District of Columbia Public Schools’ (DCPS) early childhood classrooms.

If you’re an older consumer and you’re having trouble with debt collectors, you’re not alone. According to U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, "since July 2013, older Americans have submitted approximately 8,700 complaints to us about debt collection."
Their top debt collection complaint is that the debt collectors attempt to collect funds that consumers do not owe, do not recognize, or believe are wrong. The second most common complaint is about the collectors’ communication tactics.

Did you know that with the start of the new fiscal year, every October, the maximum benefit amounts and income eligibility standards are adjusted for SNAP/Food Stamps? As a result, more people may now be eligible for SNAP benefits.
