Mayor Vincent C. Gray toured the Model Cities Senior
Wellness Center last week. During his visit,
the Mayor peeked in on a chair exercise class that was in session. Mayor
Gray also spoke with seniors who were eating lunch, many
people, he knew from his work in the community. For more information

Witness the selection of
Ms. Senior D.C. as women age 60 and older compete for the title.
Contestants will be judged on a personal interview with a panel of
judges, their philosophy of life, talent and evening gown presentations.
Be present as the District's most community service oriented, elegant,
poised and talented women compete to represent their peers as Ms. Senior D.C. 2013. The donation for tickets is $25 and they are available

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), in partnership with the DC Office of Planning (OP), would like to invite you to participate in a series of public workshops to guide the development of the District of Columbia’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan. During the workshops, citizens will learn about project goals and have the opportunity to provide input about the future of parks and recreation programs and facilities. The DCOA Elder Abuse Prevention Committee offered a
training on June 14th, at The Catholic University of America, Columbus
School of Law, entitled Ethical Standards and Boundary Issues: Working with
Vulnerable Seniors. This one-day workshop focused on professional ethics and financial
exploitation for social workers, case managers, lawyers, investigators and
other professionals who work with the aging and vulnerable adult
populations.

The DC Office on Aging has launched a Call-In-Talk
Line to alleviate the isolation and loneliness that many seniors in the
community experience. The program allows seniors an opportunity to share their
concerns with a caring individual that directs them to resources and services
available to assist DC residents. The Free service is available Monday -
Friday 8:15 am - 4:45 pm. Call in weekdays to 202-724-5626!
