Last week, Mayor Vincent C. Gray stopped by the Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center and the Hayes Senior Wellness Center. During the visits the Mayor spent time listening to seniors and sharing future plans for the District including the Age-Friendly City initiative. While at the Hayes Senior Wellness Center the Mayor assisted with serving meals to participants.

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Office on Aging will host
the Annual DPR Senior Picnic on June 13, 10 am - 2 pm at Oxon Run Park, 900 Valley Avenue, SE. Enjoy live entertainment, music, dancing and
lunch under the tent. Demonstration
bingo, information and resource exhibits and health screenings will also be

DCOA Executive Director John M. Thompson, Ph.D. joined Joseph Resch, executive director, Seabury Resources for Aging, Imam Shareef, president Masjid Muhammed Mosque and others to cut the ribbon on the newest nutrition site for the Office on Aging Senior Service Network. The Kibar Halal Nutrition Site will be the first site to offer nutritious Halal meals to area
older residents. The site is located at the Masjid Muhammad
Mosque, 1519 Islamic Way, NW in Ward 5. In addition to meals, Seabury Resources for the Aging will provide supportive services for residents Monday-Friday.
Meals offered this week include Oven-fried Cod, Grilled Chicken Alfredo and BBQ Chicken. For more information or to reserve a meal, call 202-529-8701.

The DC Office on Aging has launched a Call-In-Talk
Line to alleviate the isolation and loneliness that many seniors in
the community experience. The program allows seniors an opportunity to
share their concerns with a caring individual that directs them to
resources and services available to assist DC residents. The Free service is available Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 4:45 pm. Call in weekdays to 202-724-5626!
