On behalf of DCOA's Interim Director, Laura Newland, and the DC Office on Aging faculty and staff; we want to wish you a happy, momentous, and joyful Thanksgiving holiday. May this Thanksgiving holiday season bring you happiness and peace.
Last week, Mayor Bowser, special guests, additional government agencies and private organizations celebrated the opening of #Genesis; a new affordable housing development in Northwest D.C. that puts senior citizens and single mothers who formerly were in foster care under one roof. "I have a lot of life, a lot of energy still to give," one older resident says. "There's so much that older and younger people can learn from each other and that's what this development can offer here in DC," said Mayor Bowser. For more information on Genesis, please click the link here.
DC Office on Aging has partnered with DCTV on a brand new initiative called, "The Centenarian Project." A new project that honors those 100 years and older, and allows them to share their digital stories told through the eyes of youth. Corporal
Alyce Dixon is the third interview to run as part of the project. To view Corporal Dixon's full video, please

Winter
is around the corner and that means snow season is close. Mayor Bowser’s
goal is for the District to be snow-ready before winter weather
arrives. Some of our residents, including seniors and individuals with
disabilities, are unable to do their own shoveling. And it’s especially
important that ServeDC has cleared sidewalks and stairs, because they often
need to get to medical appointments. ServeDC is recruiting 2,500
volunteers to join their DC Resident Snow Team and help our vulnerable neighbors
with snow removal. If you are interested in volunteering, please
visit snowteam.dc.gov.
And if you are a senior over the age of 60, or if you have a disability
and do not have someone in your home who can shovel, please call 311 to register.
