Arrest of Suspect in Shooting of Beefcakes
Community tips lead to arrest of suspect in animal cruelty case
Boulder County, Colo.
After a detailed
investigation, on the evening of July 20, 2015 deputies of the Boulder County
Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year-old Russell William Middleton for three
felony charges and one misdemeanor charge in the shooting of a pitbull, named
Ice Tee by his previous owner and later named Beefcakes, by his rescuers.
The Longmont
Humane Society and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures of Beefcakes
on Facebook, which lead to tips from community members who recognized Beefcakes.
The Sheriff’s Office is very grateful for the tips and the assistance of the
public which lead to the arrest of a suspect in this case.
A warrant was
issued for Russell William Middleton for Cruelty to Animals, a class 6 felony, and
due to his criminal history additional charges of Possession of Weapons by
Previous Offender, a class 6 felony, Violation of Bail Bond Conditions, a class
6 felony (punishable by 1-1 ½ years in jail and a fine of $1,000-$100,000); and
one count of Violation of a Protection Order, a class 2 misdemeanor (punishable
by 6 months in jail and/or a $500.00 fine) were also charged.
Beefcakes is
being treated by the Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists of Longmont, where
they have been treating his badly broken jaw. The jaw was broken when he was
shot.
