Homicide on 500 Block of Stevenson St.
Salinas, CA – On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am, Salinas Police Officers responded to the 500 block of Stevenson Street on a report of a man yelling that someone was just killed inside a house. A second caller reported a man running from the residence and being followed by a citizen. Officers responded to the residence and simultaneously began looking for the suspect, who was reportedly running eastbound towards Davis Road.
When responding officers entered the residence, they located an adult female victim, 28 years of age, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Officers and Medical Personnel attempted life-saving measures, and she was transported to a local hospital. However, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
Salinas Police Officers and Detectives were canvassing the area and located Edgar Zaragoza (25) walking in the area of Boronda Road and Fontes Lane, nearly a mile and a half from the crime scene. He matched the description of the suspect and was detained. He was positively identified as the male seen running from the house, and it was later determined he lived at the house with the victim, with whom he was in a dating relationship. Zaragoza was later transported to the Monterey County Jail where he was lodged for the Homicide.
While an arrest has been made in this tragic and senseless murder, this is still an ongoing investigation.
