A Message From Your Council Member… 

Congratulations to our newly selected representatives. Donna Flores has been appointed to the Commission on Disabilities and Reuben Hernandez has been appointed to the Planning Commission.  Ward 6 is always looking for great community leaders to serve on our City Boards and Commissions. Walk to End Homelessness

 

The City of Riverside Homeless Program will be hosting their Annual Walk to bring awareness of the growing need to end panhandling and to better serve the need of the homeless community. 100% of every dollar raised for the Walk to End Homelessness goes directly back into the community to address homeless families and individual's basic needs. Please join us on April 11th at 7:00am for the 2.5 mile walk and/or consider sponsoring the event. Click here to register or for more information.

La Sierra/Collett Project

 

The next meeting regarding the La Sierra/Collett Housing Project is scheduled for March 4th at 6:30pm. The meeting will take place at Collett Elementary School (10850 Collett Avenue, Riverside, CA 92505).

 

Power to the Youth

The Norte Vista’s Lady Brave Leaders have been working on an event to empower our community. On April 9th we will be co-hosting a community forum for middle school students and their parents to prepare them for the many challenges faced by our incoming high school youth. More details to come in the April Newsletter. In the meantime, businesses/organizations wishing to reserve a booth or make a donation for our raffle are encouraged to contact Diana Medina at (951) 826-2528 or by email DMedina@Riversideca.gov.

 

Read with the Mayor

Join Mayor Bailey in sharing the fun and importance of early reading with the young children of Riverside.  Reading is not just fun—reading is essential to future success!  Mayor Bailey will be visiting the Arlanza Library on March 3rd at 11:00am. Bring your little ones to share this experience.

 

Charity: All Female Flag Football

 

Join the Riverside Police Officers’ Association and the Riverside Sheriffs’ Association in their 1st Annual Charity all Female Flag Football Game. The RPD Pistols vs. the RSO Renegades will face off Saturday, March 21st at noon in the RCC Wheelock Field. Tickets are $5.00 (all proceeds to benefit the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Relief Foundation and the Riverside Police Officer’s Association Assistance Fund).

Contest of Courage  
Congratulations to the Riverside Youth Judo Club for holding the First Annual “Yuuki no Shiai” (Contest of Courage); the Judo scrimmage was put together, specifically for our Developmentally Disabled Judoka.  We had 20 competitors who are overcoming disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, and Downs Syndrome. The Riverside Youth Judo Club has over 140 students (the 3rd largest chartered USJA club in the Nation). Youth Judo Club
