Hello, I hope you had a safe and happy holiday season.
I want to alert you that some parts of Ward 1 are experiencing an increase in thefts of mail from residential mailboxes. Please be aware of this and be sure to collect your mail as soon as you can each day from your mailbox. If you are going on vacation, consider asking the Post Office to hold your mail.
The Riverside Police Department works closely with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to investigate and solve these crimes. Should you experience past theft of your mail please report it to the United States Postal Service (USPIS) as follows:
To report mail theft crimes over the phone to USPIS please call: 1-877-876-2455
- Press option #1 for customer service
- Press option #2 for emergencies
- Press option #3 for mail theft and/or identity theft
- Press option #4 for mail fraud
- Also, if you have already filed a case and are following up you can press Option #5, enter your zip code and get to a division (Los Angeles) in our area to follow up on that case.
To report mail theft crimes online to the USPIS (we are told phone lines get very busy) go to https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/ then go to contact us, use the drop down box to file a theft report, etc.
If there is a mail theft crime in progress please call the Riverside Police Department Dispatch at 951-354-2007, or if you have witness information or some other investigative material useful for follow up to the Police on a mail theft incident please also call them at the same number. Otherwise there is no need to report mail theft to Riverside PD in addition to the USPIS.
