City of Riverside, California Ward 6 Update

Jim Perry
City Council Member - Ward 6

A Message From Your Council Member…

The school year has begun and we continue to move forward with business. We have seen great changes in Ward 6 over the past year. Graffiti reports are down by over 70% in Ward 6 thanks to our joint efforts with several City departments: Public Works, Code Enforcement, the 311 Call Center, the Police Department, and most important, you-the community. Please continue to contact us if we could be of assistance in your neighborhood. We wish all students a successful school year.

City’s New Transparency Portal

The City of Riverside’s new transparency portal is an option for residents specifically interested in financial information. The City Council’s Finance Committee at a special meeting on July 29th reviewed and approved an online “Ask Finance” portal for citizens to have their questions about City finances answered directly by our Finance Department staff. Answers to questions submitted at the website -www.riversideca.gov/finance/ask-finance- will be posted by the Finance Department staff as soon as they can be researched and addressed. Visitors to the site will also be able to submit documents along with their questions. Finance staff will be able to provide supporting information when answering questions. The City Council’s Finance Committee will review all questions and answers quarterly at their regular meeting, beginning in September 2014. Citizens can attend those meetings to ask follow-up questions as well.

The Finance Department already provides cutting-edge access to financial information, including monthly financial reports, investor relations information, and most recently, the City’s online checkbook and budget tool powered by OpenGov. All of these user-friendly tools are available at www.riversideca.gov/finance/. The “Ask Finance” website; however, enables interested citizens to submit detailed questions directly to the Finance Department. Residents can pull public records on any topic at www.EngageRiverside.com, the citywide transparency portal unveiled earlier this month. Information can also be gathered by reading the City budget and/or financial statements and through Public Records Act requests.

Hometown Heroes Honor Run

Mark your calendar for October 11th. RPOA will be hosting their annual Hometown Heroes Honor Run from 7am-11am at the Arlington Sports Complex. Fueled by volunteerism, the Hometown Heroes Honor Run Committee is dedicated to families of injured or fallen officers, ensuring they have the financial support necessary to recover or adjust to their new lives. The run was developed as a tribute to honor Officer Andrew Tachias, a UCR alumni, Division 1 runner shot and wounded during the line of duty for the Riverside Police Department. Every penny of the revenue generated from the Hometown Heroes Honor Run is put into the Riverside Police Officers’ Assistance Fund. Money is equally divided to support youth and elderly community based programming and families of officers injured in the line of duty or those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
