La Sierra/Collett Project

The City’s Community Development Department will be holding a community meeting to ask for input on a housing project planned on La Sierra Avenue and Collett Avenue. The meeting will take place January 30th at 6:30pm, La Sierra Community Center (5215 La Sierra Avenue, Riverside). Information gathered from the meeting will be taken into consideration for the drafting of the City of Riverside’s Request For Proposal (RFP).

Cops & Cars

Support the upcoming Fallen and Injured Riverside Police Officer Fundraiser on February 1st. Wicks Brewing Company will be hosting this event to raise funds for two great causes. Proceeds from the Freight Crain & Sheep Dog sales will go to the Crain & MacKay Families. 100% of the proceeds and donations from the show will go to the Riverside Police Officers Association. Come out to this family friendly event to enjoy the live band, drinks, BBQ, D.J. and car display from the Old Farts Racing Team.

February 1st • 11am-4pm • Wicks Brewing Company • 11620 Sterling Ave., Suite C Riverside

Walmart Renovation

The Walmart Shopping Center on Van Buren Blvd. is set to begin its renovations within the coming months. The building itself is staying in place, but the nursery and auto center are being relocated to improve traffic flow from Van Buren Blvd. and in the interior of the parking lot. For more details on the planned renovation click here.

Homeless Ordinance Approved

To improve the quality of life for residents and to protect them when they are most vulnerable, the Riverside City Council approved an amendment to Section 9.04.010 of the Riverside Municipal Code – “Prohibition against certain forms of aggressive solicitation” to prohibit soliciting at the following locations:

  • Banks, ATMs and check cashing businesses;
  •  Persons in vehicles while located within 25 feet of a driveway providing vehicular access to a shopping center, retail or business establishment;
  •  Parking lots after dark;
  •  Public transportation vehicles;
  •  Gasoline stations and fuel pumps;
  • Median strips and freeway ramps; and
  • Outdoor dining areas of any restaurant or other dining establishment serving food for immediate consumption.

Restricting solicitation in such places will provide a balance between the rights of solicitors and the rights of persons who wish to decline or avoid such solicitations and enhance public and traffic safety as a reasonable time, place and manner restriction.

The City of Riverside has also taken a pro-active approach in addressing homelessness in our community in partnership with a wide range of non-profit organizations, social service agencies, and faith-based institutions. The City has created a central location called the Riverside Homeless Service Campus on Hulen Place to provide homeless assistance and prevention.
