Happy New Year Ward 3!

I hope this first newsletter of 2014 finds you well and prosperous.

As your newly elected Ward 3 Councilmember, my goal is to serve you.

I look forward to seeing you, meeting new residents and partnering with our local businesses to help make Riverside a better place to live, work and play.

Please contact me if you have concerns, questions or suggestions. My cell is (951) 515-1663 or email at msoubirous@Riversideca.gov

We welcome your input on this and future newsletters. We want to provide information that is important to you.

 Happy New Year 2014

Thank you!

A big THANK YOU and a job well done to our “Interim” Councilmember Ken Gutierrez and Legislative Field Representative Meredyth “Charlie” Meredith. Both served the residents of Ward 3 during this past year after Councilman Bailey was elected as Mayor Bailey. Prior to Council appointment, Ken served as the City’s Planning Director and Meredyth served as a Riverside Police Captain. Ken and Meredyth each served the City for over 30 years. We wish you success in your future endeavors!

Grade Separations

The Streeter Avenue railroad grade separation project is in progress and moving along. Please be advised there are many planned temporary closures throughout the project life. Often, some closures are last-minute due to open windows of opportunity to speed the project along. Please bear with this inconvenience – the sooner we get this done the better (safer and quieter) things will be for all of us.

Red Light Cameras

The City Council’s Public Safety Committee (Councilmembers Davis, Melendrez & Soubirous) will be looking into the effectiveness and costs associated with keeping this program running and reporting back to the full council. The Public Safety Committee meets each 3rd Wednesday at 1 pm – City Hall.

91 Freeway Construction Update

The 91 freeway construction is moving along – just like Traffic, the work is sometimes slow and sometimes fast. Ultimately it will end and we will enjoy the benefits of months and months of traffic woes.

Business Spotlight

Bullseye Sport was selected as this month’s featured business and subject of the Ward 3 Economic Success Report to City Council. Owner Vince Torres, who first started selling gun accessories from his home, has expanded to his current facility at 6710 Brockton Avenue, located in the Brocton Arcade. His guns, ammo and accessories business draws customers from throughout the city as well as from our region. His customer base also frequents nearby businesses, which has been an economic boost to the area. We wish Vince and Bullseye Sport much success – thank you for choosing Riverside!
